People associated with ship modeling join together to form guilds, for the veterans to pass on their knowledge to the greenhorns and for members of all levels to exchange new ideas. USS Constitution Model Shipwright Guild and Ship Modelers Association of California are examples of these guilds.
Scandinavians developed Viking ships; one of the best ships built in Europe between 700 AD to the late 1000s and in 1300 A.D. introduced the stern rudder. The Mediterranean shipbuilders developed full-rigged sailing ship models in 1450 A.D. From there to the early 1800s ships used were constructed mostly using the plank on frame method, rudder control, and full-rigged sails. Galleons model ships launched to sea in the 1500s and used to the 1800s. The most famous ship models were the packet and clipper ships. The differences between a cruise ship and ocean liner are large and noticeable. Ocean liners are also built stronger and with larger capacities in general, but lack many of the luxurious amenities that cruises have, such as multiple pools or shops. Both ocean liners and cruises, however, are nearly identical in build and shape to each other. Several extremely famous ships are the Titanic, her sister the Olympic, and the Mauritania. As of this year, 2011, the largest ship of this type in the world is the MS Allure of the Seas.
